Why I will be at Coachella!

When the line up for Coachella 2009 was released I have to admit I was a little disappointed; and being tight on money this year as everyone else I was debating if I should even go. Then everything changed when i was told a new act was added; the brilliant French pioneer ETIENNE DE CRECY!

His massive 30 foot cube of eye-popping visuals will be taking over the sahara stage on Sunday April 19, 2009!

If you aren’t as excited as I am after watching this video you must be blind.

Clifford Lidell – New Mix BUTTER

Clifford Lidell is someone we are very intimate with.  Literally we have slept with him in wierd cities like Coalinga, Ca.  Being around him so often we are able to hear upcoming mixes and original tracks on a regular basis. We didn’t see this one coming. This current mix of over 80 songs in just under 50 minutes still knocked our socks off.  He takes it to so many different genres. Many people have drawn several comparisons to him and other artists.  You figure out who that might be.

You can’t save the world with a crayon.

When art attacks!!! Juxtapoz has a video piece up on street artist Robbie Conal. I find him entertaining. He should be dropping some new pieces based off the current state of our economy. Can’t wait!!

Kids by MGMT blew up and had it’s time. We enjoyed it and look forward to more from MGMT. The Mentalists have decided to keep the momentum going and do a cover but they take it to the next level by using their ipones and ipod touches.  The instrumental is covered by regular apps you can get on itunes.  It’s pretty good too.  What impresses me is that this is a very clever piece of marketing to give the band more exposure.

Here is an original track by them. Who do they remind you of? I know this song reminds me of the sounds.

The great debate I have been having with my DJ friends lately has been on Yuksek.  I like a few tracks (especially the one with Amanda Blank) and they can’t find anything to like about them.  Which side are you on?

We have been huge fans of Flosstradamus for a long time. We were really excited when we got to book them for one of our larger parties. They were really cool guys. It is good to see them blow up and blur the lines between the party music that was once considered only electro to what is now being embraced by the masses. There is a good interview with them here at ALLHIPHOP.COM.

Here is their new song from the album they hopefully will be putting out this year.

Here is a song I had stuck on repeat for a bit that they remixed.

Dr. Seuss – The Politico

Earlier in the week we had a post about Dr. Seuss’ birthday, but also mentioned a little known fact regarding his WWII political cartoons. More than 200 of these cartoons were were assembled for the first time in the book Dr. Seuss Goes to War: The World War II Editorial Cartoons of Theodor Seuss Geisel by Richard H. Minear.

Minear said that there is “a disconnect between what we usually think of as Dr. Seuss and the content of the cartoons.” However, many Dr. Seuss’s whimsical children’s books also contain serious themes. Yertle the Turtle, for example, is a cautionary tale against dictators. The Lorax contains a strong environmental message. The Sneetches is a plea for racial tolerance. Horton Hears a Who is a parable about the American Occupation of Japan. And The Butter Battle Book pillories the Cold War and nuclear deterrence. Even the Cat in the Hat’s famous red-and-white-striped hat has a political predecessor in the top hat Uncle Sam wears in Dr. Seuss’s wartime cartoons.

Here are a few of the cartoons.

Adidas Originals Stan Smith II

JD Sports has some sick exclusive Stan Smith’s that would look smooth with your new spring wear. I personally love the bold yellow sole — perfect for showing off your fancy footwork.
