What People Do For Money

I came across some interesting stories regarding a favorite subject of mine, Argent AKA Money.

It seems the Madoff ponzi scheme has taken its first victim, and not just in financial terms.

Rene-Thierry Magon de la Villehuchet, 65, was found sitting at his desk with both wrists slashed, New York police spokesman Paul Browne said. A bottle of sleeping pills was on his desk and a box cutter lay on the floor.

The French investment manager had put $1.4bn in Madoff’s investment vehicles only to see them hit hard and was unable to find a way to recoup his investors’ money.

In another twisted tale of the interesting times we live in, check out these lucky bastards who cashed in big.

Penny for your thoughts?

I thought I would post this in honor of the just approved auto-bailout. I guess G. “DUB-YA” wasn’t done handin’ out those benjamins just yet… I wonder who is next?

All kidding aside, it’s the right thing to do as many see “The Big Three” as a huge government jobs program that employs an estimated 230,000 – 250,000 people. This move gives the incoming administration time to try and get the automakers to change their business plan, otherwise bankruptcy is inevitable.

Big ups to Barry at The Big Picture for always bringin’ the heat.

The Irony of Life…

Felix Bautista, an anti-kidnapping expert who has apparently been involved in resolving over 100 kidnappings, has been kidnapped off the street in Northern Mexico. Mr. Bautista had been advising government officials and local businessmen on how to minimize the risk of kidnappings and has been missing since Dec. 10th.

nuff said.

Does art imitate lunch, or does lunch imitate art?

Came across these Japanese-style Bento boxes created by AnnaTheRed that are inspired by animation and video games.

Past is Prologue

It’s interesting that the more things change, the more they stay the same… growing up back in the day, we always used to think about the “future” and what it would be like. With subliminal images planted in our minds of Marty hitting 88mph or kids trying to create the perfect woman using their computer on a Friday night, we always looked to the future to inspire us… but now, where do we look to inspire OUR future?

A wolf, a rocc, and fakeRich.

We have had the pleasure of having a Peanut Butter Wolf and J. Rocc of Stones Throw at two different events recently. Due to venue restrictions when Peanut Butter Wolf played there was no interview, video taping or photos. So below you can see a great video that Stones Throw has on youtube. Both Dj’s amazed us.

Take a look at the great interview and write up Mykal from put together from a night he conducted an interview at MUTE FRIDAYS.

Freak Cabaret Road Trip

I just came back from an awesome road trip to San Francisco. It was good to disconnect. The trip had an interesting situation where we saw a drag queen go into cardiac arrest. We kept going and went to the warehouse sale for TRUE, Upper Playground, and others.
It was well worth it. Got a great deal on some CLAE shoes. Ate at my favorite place CHA CHA CHA on haight street as well.

Also, checked out the Yves Saing Laurent exhibit. After viewing his collections I am sure he would have enjoyed this party.

The secret is in the secret.

Lately everyone has been asking us how we have been throwing events and having good attendance. Obviously we are certified geniuses but there is more to it. I am not going to directly tell you to follow steps 1,2,3 to find success and I am going leave out the most important thing. But I will tell you the secret is in the secret.

This is an email I got to let out a secret.

“Okay, so the SECRET GUEST tonight at Cinespace is Laidback Luke.
We decided to announce it to the public. This is huge for Dim Mak Tuesdays!
Please help by reposting this bulletin to your myspace, inviting all your facebook friends, sending out text messages, email blast, whatever!

Lets make this a crazy night!
We appreciate your help and support on nights like this.”

Leave me a comment if you know the missing piece!
