The Knife, in collaboration with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock, are to release the studio version of the opera ‘Tomorrow, In A Year’, on the 1st March 2010.
Commissioned by Danish performance group Hotel Pro Forma to write the music for their opera based on Charles Darwin and his book ‘On the Origin of the Species’, The Knife decided to make this a collaborative process, working with artists Mt. Sims and Planningtorock for the first time, to capture the huge width of the Darwin and evolution theme.
Put your hands up !! I got the place surrounded! I know the world is over crowded, but I want to make babies with you!! This sounds like so many drunk nights with me but it’s a song from Via Audio.
Skillz the rapper better known as the ghost writer to many famous rappers comes out with a year end rap up every year. This year he hits on all the trashy pop culture that we experienced and as always addresses those we have lost. Always a good listen.
The other day on FB my co conspirator posted up an old picture of a few of us from back in the day. The peak of our partying days where we drove all around southern california to attend parties. It was interesting to see how young we were and the fashion we were into. Then I started to think about what music we got excited about when a DJ would drop a certain track. Here are two.
This last video is certainly just for kicks. It’s from a daytime rave called RTD that took place on the steps of the federal building in DTLA. Maybe we are in it.
If you’re like me you’re constantly wondering when A-Trak & Armand will be releasing some more Duck Sauce material. Well upon my research I came across an pretty interesting interview Armand Van Helden did with LA Weekly a few days ago when he arrived for his performance at Control’s 1 year anniversary.
LA Weekly:You’ve been releasing tracks with DJ A-Trak under the moniker Duck Sauce. Are you going to do more? Armand Van Helden: Yeah, yeah, yeah — it has to be made. I would say sometime next year. Could be like a limited promo [single] at the end of the January too. If people like it, then eventually we might compile it to an album.
I’m pretty disappointed we missed his set, as we had our own event that night. We contemplated in front of Detroit Bar’s parking lot around 1am to drive up to LA to catch the last of his set but obviously we didn’t make it. I heard it was great as well as received some texts and pictures that night as he was performing. Thanks Ch!bi!! You can read the rest of the article here -
Idle Warship is a musical trio composed of Brooklyn emceeTalib Kweli, Philadelphia singer Res, and Canadian singer/rapper Graph Nobel. All three are talented in their efforts but often overlooked for more mainstream or pop focused artists. Talib Kweli is my favorite rapper ever. They have united to create Idle Warship.
“Idle Warship started as an idea to make a dance song for fun. It has since morphed into a full blown labor of love, with it’s own identity. We no longer control it.
Idle Warship is a vehicle of expression, it is a state of mind that creates art that is needed. It is not needed for the world, it is needed for the artist. It is selfish. It is egotistical. It is confused. It is human.
Pop stars, movie stars, celebuglies, this is what we worship. They are beyond royalty, we try to assign a divine quality to them. We prop them up and make sacrifices to them. There are always new deities screaming for our attention, and we dispose of our gods in grand fashion. We tear them to shreds and fight over the scraps like rats on a sinking ship. The Lauryn Hills, Britney Spears and Anna Nicoles of the world were once little girls with dreams. They seem crazy, but I say they are sane reactions to a crazy world.”
A few months ago they released a mixtape “Party Robots“. Download it.
