Slouch Sunday

Lately a lot of people have seemed to be stressed out, including myself. We all can get carried away in the little day to day tasks we have in front of us, but can easily loose track of the real important people in our lives, and what is important to all of us. Some times you got to just sit back, take a look at the big picture and enjoy what is important. While you guys take a minute to do all this, here are a couple of tracks that could help set your mood.

Steve Ryback – December Holiday Mix

Regardless if we are biased or not, this has got to be my favorite mix/set that Steve Ryback has recorded to this date. Only 22 years old and the recent maturity in his sound has definitely increased the popularity of this young producer. You will hear new hits with some old favs and of course his signature genre selection from Big Room to Tech House. It definitely has a dark and mysterious feel but gets playful at times. We don’t get to hear much of his production in this latest mix but he does bless us with one unreleased original at the 39min mark “Wire Tap”. You can download the mix here!!!

Explosions In the Sky – Internal Emotional Rollercoaster

Obviously I’m not posting anything new cause there isn’t really anything new to post on this wonderful band from Austin, Texas. I just wanted to share my thoughts on one of my top 5 favs of all time.

There are a few bands in my opinion that can take you on what feels like emotions that you have gained from life experiences. There have been some amazing albums that some great bands have have produced that tell stories, love, experiences and that share their emotions. You notice that how I say “Albums”, My point is that Explosions In the Sky do this for me but they can do it in just ONE SONG &…..WITH NO VOCALS. Start to Finish, you can go from harmonious, fearless, happy/cry, sadness and so on..I think you get the picture. I stumbled upon a few non-official home made videos of some of my favorites. Enjoy!!

Jet Rag $1 Sunday’s

This past Sunday, I woke up to a very angry phone call from my friend Mike. Mike called me pissed off that he was outside my door and had been waiting for 15 minutes. He told me to throw on some clothes and to hop in his car because we were going to the thrift store Jet Rag in Hollywood. I didn’t understand why he was such in a hurry but as soon as we pulled up in front of the store I knew why.

Jet Rag has dollar sundays! Which means that everything in this lot is sold for a buck. No tax, no change, just a buck. Every hour the store will dump some new clothes onto the pile, and tons of people sift thru the rubble to find something that looks like it will fit.

Now don’t get me wrong, this is not the ideal shopping place. As you can see in the picture above the amount of looney people that attend this every sunday is insane. You have got everyone from between hipsters, gothics, homeless people, families, the whole shibang! Another note is that, these are $1 clothes from a vintage store! Which means I sifted for about an hour and all I could find is two jackets that seemed like someone could have been murdered in them, but on the bright side I only paid two bucks.

With all that said, Jet Rag $1 Sundays was worth checking out, but I will not be going back anytime soon. If you are a die hard vintage go-er, or just someone that cant afford new clothes in this economy, Jet Rag is well worth checking out.

Mute Fridays comes to an end, Something new is to begin.

Something like this you don’t even know where to begin, Excuse me if I go on and on but 3 years is a lot to cover but I’ll try to shorten it up for you. This Friday will be our very last MUTE Fridays :(

Almost exactly 3 years ago is when we embarked on this little adventure we now call MUTE Fridays but 3 years ago we were a Bi-Monthly every other Thursday if some of you didn’t know this. When this all started, I asked myself, “am I really going to start up a club/night in Santa Ana in Orange County, Who parties in Santa Ana and what the hell is Proof Bar??” Ralph talked me into it and so we begun. Not to toot our own horn but Broadway and Santa Ana was a ghost town before we came into town, this of course was prior to The Crosby opening which really sealed the deal of Santa Ana becoming what it is today.

The Bi-Monthly Thursday MUTE lasted about 4 months and we were slammed every night. So we said to ourselves, lets start every Friday. This when it all really started to really become who we are today. As most of you probably could understand, running a weekly every week can take some toll on you, your relationships & people around you. I will admit in the beginning it was tough, not crowded every Friday, slow nights then some busy nights but right towards 1st year mark, we really got a great feel for what we were doing, getting really networked, meeting great people & building amazing relationships.

We have grown into something far bigger than I could of ever imagined. I really think the 1st thing that really put our night on the map was our 1st major indoor outdoor night called “Apples & Oranges” a party we did with our closest friends Grn Apple Tree. We had a outdoor stage, lazers, light show, extra sound system, wall to wall people, line around the block & really just a great effing vibe. I had friends from LA come up to me telling me, “wow I can’t believe you guys pulled this off in Orange County.”

Then it just got crazier from there on out, from booking VNDLSM now AutoErotique, Designer Drugs, Kid Cudi, Peanut Butter Wolf, J.Rocc, DJ Revolution then led us to our bigger one off other events to booking Flosstradamus, The Bloody Beetroots, Klever, The Pharcyde..I think you understand where I am going with this.

It was amazing and difficult while it lasted, fought with friends, made new friends, ended friendships, built on relationships and even caught couples having sex in the bathroom. It was a tough decision to make but with a couple things beyond our control, some growing we were doing as a company & as individuals, it was really just time for us to end this great run. Now don’t forget, this isn’t the end of MUTE97 as a company, we are off to bigger and better things. I promise you you will be excited & impressed.

I’d just like to thank everyone who has supported us from day one and if I forget some of you, I’m sorry. Proof Bar(Joey & Justin), Pete my favorite Bartender and now friend, All the Proof bartenders, Grn Apple Tree, Jose aka Legit, Neil Sharum, Dim Mak crew, FakeRich, Arlo aka GOST, The Crosby, Bryan Linares, Frank Zamudio, Middle Class, Chris Santiago, Rockberry, Clifford Lidell, Steve Ryback, GMO, Colossal KNXN, Jon Ryan aka Still Life, Andy, Ben N, Dan Sena, The KW3R crew, DJ Metric, Japson, Ch!bi, Nicky Savage, Robbed By Robots, BPM, Deckstar, Them Jeans, Dan-Oh, Pase Rock, Keith & Dave from Auto-Erotique, Detroit Bar, Steven from Ave, The Heist Crew, Nick Lynn, Luv-Tek, Nytel, Gina Turner , Louisahhh!, Nate Day, fromElsewhere crew, YOOKS, Neoteric, Corey Biggs, Adam Salter, Danny Carbajal, Damager, Dmndays, Mr. Peaches, Sparrow Love Crew wher eever you are, J. Logic, 87 Stick Up Kids, DubFrequency, Franco Shade RIP & all the regulars who spend every Friday with us!!

Hope to see you all this Friday as we close the final chapter. I will leave you with a quote Mr. Ralph Milan sent me today.

“I never understood why when you died, you didn’t just vanish, everything could just keep going on the way it was only you just wouldn’t be there. I always thought I’d like my own tombstone to be blank. No epitaph, and no name. Well, actually, I’d like it to say ‘figment.'” –

Top Shop – Kate’s Christmas 2009 Collection Launch

Kate Moss is one of my absolute favorite style icons. Her look is always perfect, chic, and effortlessly fashionable. When I visited London in 2007, Top Shop was of course one of the first places on my list I had to go. A girlfriend and I were in shopping heaven for hours. But sadly there is not a Top Shop anywhere near me so I am constantly checking Top Shop online for inspiration and ideas for mix matching my wardrobe. From the tulips skirts to the cutest shoes and seasonal accessories checking back every season is a must. Not only does Kate Moss have her own line on the site but many other London designers as well which makes this site one of my favorite online boutiques to shop at.

Kate’s Christmas 2009 Collection will launch tomorrow, Thursday, October 29. Her line will not only include party dresses but an intimate collection as well.

“I just dreamt up what I wanted in my wardrobe, I’ve very much approached my collection like this over the past couple of years. There are some great basics like the fish net set (which I love) and it develops into some really chic vintage style chiffon teddys which I just couldn’t find anywhere.” – Kate Moss

Jimmy Choo’s collaboration with H&M

Mark your calendars ladies our dreams have come true. One of my favorite shoe designers, Jimmy Choo, has collaborated with H&M and the collection hits stores November 14! The collection will not only include accessories such as animal print clutches, beautiful boots and of course heels but will also include women’s and men’s clothing as well.

Tamara Mellon, Founder and President of Jimmy Choo states “We are privileged to be among the fashion greats who have been affiliated with H&M so far, and to be designing a collection appealing to fashion savvy, street smart women, and to be including some great pieces for men, too. Jimmy Choo will bring to H&M a sophisticated, fashion forward, accessible and glamorous collection – the perfect party pieces to buy now and then wear out that night!”

And Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor of H&M states “We adore Jimmy Choo’s shoes and bags. They are glamorous and sexy, and they add instant style to the simplest of outfits. I like the way we have worked with clothes to accessorize the shoes and bags rather than the other way around. This collaboration is particularly exciting because it’s our first shoe designer collection. It’s a joy to be able to offer top end designer shoes and bags of excellent quality to our customers.”

I cannot wait.
