SOUR – Hibi no neiro (日々の音色)

I randomly came across this music video today by the Japanese band Sour for their video Hibi No Neiro and fell in love! I know absolutely nothing about this band but this video intrigued me. The entire video was created via webcam by their fans from countries all over the world which I found to be brilliantly done. And the song is upbeat and just adorable. The band formed in 2002 and includes Hoshijima (gut guitar/voice) of French birth British growth, Sohey (bass/upright bass) of Ginza birth Ginza growth, and Kennnnn (drums/toys) of German birth Spanish growth.

Just when I thought this band couldn’t get any more cute I looked up the lyrics since the song is in Japanese. Enjoy.

Your heart that gently reflects in the puddle
is your tone, as you pass through the maze of everyday

Footsteps of spring
the city starts adding color
The melody flowsLE LU LA LI
Through the colored lenses

Between the waves of all the different values

Whats the most important thing?

Spinning and turning on the overpass
as we overtake that season
this and that, which color is your melody?
Sometimes you could get confused

What are you thinking of now?

If we can embrace all the differences
It will shine the sky in rainbow colors
Your heart that gently reflects in the puddle
is your tone, as you pass through the maze of everyday

You can see it in any color, because of your clear feeling
Dont worry about it, lets just go as we are.
If we can embrace all the differences
The rain will stop, and the sky will shines in rainbow colors

Your heart that gently reflects in the puddle
is your tone, as you pass through the maze of everyday
You can see it in any color, because of your clear feeling
Let your tone shine like the rainbow

Pass through the maze of everyday
And start playing your tone

What I’ve been watching

Lately I have been listening to tons of NPR and watching Current TV everyday. Both good sources of news and interesting stories about people and their lives. I was trying to figure out if it was me getting older or just getting tired of pop culture. It’s probably both. Here are two shows I watched and really enjoyed. None of them are super new just what caught my interest in the last week.

First one is a live show of Sigur Ros playing a show in New York. Sigur Ros has contributed to some magical moments in our lives at very early hours of the morning.

The second one is a video from Iran. I’m not the kind of person to share my views on politics. Watch it and see the differences in our cultures from politics, to dating and sex. Something that surprised me was a group of friends doing some ecstasy listening to 50 cent worried about the cops coming to arrest them.

Them Jeans – White Light Mixtape Volume 8

I guess I am so uncool, I didn’t even realize these were a series of mixtapes. The first one I heard was by a good friends of ours, Vancouver native Neoteric and it is completely pure awesomeness. Amongst my circle of friends, his mixtape is in heavy rotation.

This leads to Them Jeans take on the the White Light series. Usually his mixtapes are a no brainer to download and this one is no different. The theme of the series is more of a mellow, pillow talk time with your boo or cruising down PCH vibe. So check it, while your at it check out Them Jeans new blog Bad Beat too. Oh yea, I liked this mix so much he be will rockin the party Friday, August 28th for yours truly B-Day celebration w/Colossal KNXN, Nicky Savage and many more!!

“Beestings & Nosebleeds” dubFrequency Mixtape by Nicky Savage

There are 3 reasons why I’m posting this mixtape –

1. Nicky Savage has become one of my favorite DJs/Producers over the last year.
2. Anything DF puts out is usually fire and we’ve had the pleasure of working with them on a few occasions.
3. We get a little preview of Nicky Savage’s latest project “FIERO”

Click on the link below and take a listen, Savage & DF lay down all of our favorites from Rob Roy, Mike Posner, Classixx & even “Shook Ones” a Sigur Ros & Mob deep remix. I won’t spoil anymore so go see for yourself.

Daft Punk tour in support of Tron Legacy?????

I’m sure you’ve heard by now but if you haven’t, Daft Punk is expected to do the score for the movie Tron 2 or now known as Tron Legacy. Yesterday, at the nerd convention aka Comic-Con, director Joseph Kosinski was asked if there will be a tour in support of the movie, Kosinski statetd that the duo may be so proud of their work they might just have to tour because of it and also was quoted by saying “there would definitely be Daft Punk Tron-themed events on the horizon.” Does this actually mean they will tour? Who knows?? Well the movie is not expected to come out until 2011 so we have a lot of waiting to do.

2007 seems so long ago!!!

the CRUNKBOX

I was lucky enough to come across THE CRUNKBOX, a blog run by Thomas Sahs and crew that has become a consistent source of music for me. If you downloaded my last set, wait.. of course you downloaded it! (this one) then you certainly heard some music I came across on his blog that really helped set the tone for the entire set. For those not familiar with Thomas, let me tell you… he’s got the funk.

the JUNKBOX

He’s an accomplished dj and producer of house music and during the last three years he has been experimenting with other forms of music. His new signature project, Honey Claws is getting international mainstream attention. To keep it “street” Thomas developed the Junkbox (pictured above), a completely unique and modern form of djing. He has a chunky analog sound combined with the vast mash up of all types of new school disco, funk, house, techno, electro, pop and hip hop. All in key and on beat. You can expect to hear the same level of funk that you are used to but with new sounds that make your asses shake like big booty hoes!!! I last heard him at Dynagroove in LA in April and his set, which you can find here, was insane. In case you didn’t know, Thomas has re-located to beautiful New Zealand and the Crunkbox has become his way of staying in touch through his music, which as he puts it, “…has always been a great way for me to communicate with the rest of the world.”

MUTE97’s blog will have a weekly feature which will include links to the Crunkbox with NEW MUSIC DOWNLOADS posted weekly for FREE. Some of it is his own creation, some of it is from various crews, some from friends and some of it is straight pirated but re-sent to you so that you can enjoy it as much as we do. “Music is free now,” Thomas says. “Trust me, I make next to nothing off of it and I’ve been doing it for over 15 years.”

Thomas also hosts the JUNKBOX radio show on George FM in Auckland with Ben-Wah, which lucky for us on the US west coast airs on Sunday nights from 7pm – 9pm. If you’re feeling a bit down because Monday is around the corner, then this is the injection of life you need…
